EDITING DAY 5

EDITING- SESSION 5

After completing a rough edit of our music video and putting it online and sending it to our friends we received a lot of audience feedback which helped us gain an insight into which features of the video were strengths and which were weaknesses and adapt our rough edit accordingly.

We knew what it was we wanted to improve so when we went into begin editing we had a list of things in which we planned to adapt

Some of these aspects were;

-glitch effect or similar
-more lip syncing
-a range of transitions
-further editing experimentation such as Ken Burns effect

During this session, my self and Kate re watched the music video and precisely identified the sections in which we wanted to improve. We began by changing a few of the clips around in order to make the narrative flow more, utilizing basic transition skills and layering them upon one another. We then attempted to incorporate the Ken Burns effect to show a further range of variation within our music video of transitions and challenge ourselves a bit more. This was difficult at first because the precision was so complicated and took us time to get it right, but we managed to figure it out eventually.
 After this, we recognized that the majority of outdoor shots had extreme low-key lighting so we used the color corrections panel in order to brighten and intensify the shots, making them easier to see and henceforth improving the narrative and allowing it to be mush more understandable.
We knew that we wanted to incorporate more features into our music video so we watched a handful of YouTube tutorials which explained how to utilize certain features on Final Cut Pro X such as the earthquake feature and the distortion feature, we thought that these features would add to the conventions of our music video.
By using these features we managed to add to the conventions of the music video and were able to increase the variation of editing skills. The earthquake and distortion features helped us shape meaning in our music video as they conveyed a certain sense of disorder and disequilibrium, allowing the audience to recognize the reckless lifestyle of the narrative characters. We also layered sounds on top of the music video such as a car door slamming or a laugh as we thought that these diegetic sounds would improve the song and convey further meaning.

Our music video so far...
