Editing Day 2
EDITING DAY 2
On our second day of editing we were able to further our music video considerably as the narrative began to fall into place.
Me and Kate continued to edit and import the videos into a chronological narrative; the beginning of the music video we established the characters and the setting using fast cut transitions to switch between different scenes.
We used the blade tool to make our precise and short clips and crop them down so that they were on the beat of the music, which added an element of professionalism to our music videos and showed our editing skills when it comes to transitions.
We then began to build the narrative with slightly longer clips and also incorporated the artist (Me) and used a lip syncing video to establish the artist to the audience. The artist can be differentiated from the narrative characters as we utilized a black and white filter called 'Prism', so it is clear to the audience that I am the artist.
Additionally the use of conventions of a music video were incorporated because on the word 'Love' in the chorus we used a cross dissolve transition fading the video to a pink color each time it says it as pink connotes love.
We also sped up one of the clips to reflect their chaotic and mischievous lifestyle and also utilized a match on action to continue this and show the same action from a completely different angle. This again showed our editing skills and precision with the blade tool as it had to fit properly.
We layered some diegetic sound such as laughing and chatting deliberately in order to add an aspect of realism to the music video and again to show the audience a relatable narrative which as the demographic would be interested in socialising and our music video shows exactly that.
There are a range of establishing shots which show our setting and this helps the narrative of the music video as it is easy for the audience to understand when the narrative is going onto a different scene.
Reflecting back on this editing session we showed an advancement in skills on Final Cut Pro X whilst furthering and bettering our narrative. We used filters and transitions to clarify our plot and make it easier to understand for the audience.
