Practise Editing

Practise Editing

Before we advance into the post production stage of our project and begin editing our footage we decided to practise some of the features on Final Cut Pro X which we plan to incorporate into our music video so that we are practised and can approach our editing much more prepared and with refreshed memory.

Two of the main features which we plan to utilise are lip syncing and also changing the colour of our footage from, for example, black and white back to color. Last year in our foundation portfolio, we never utilised either of these skills which meant that we didn't really know how to do them and we needed practise before going straight into it in our post production.

Kate filmed me singing a song, Beyoncé- Irreplaceable, before we downloaded it onto Final Cut Pro X and began to refresh our memory on the skills we developed during the editing of our AS project such as the simple things like the Blade tool, how to zoom in and out, and how to add sound to a video.

Although it took us a while to get a hold of things again, it became apparent that the practise really was necessary and would help us long term with our timing schedule so we didn't fall behind or make any mistakes when we actually began our editing.

1) We then had to download the song itself and export it into the software and layer it on top of the video clip.
2) Next we had to listen to how the song fell with my mouth movements before using the blade tool to cut the song itself
3)It took us a while but we matched the song so that the actual lyrics were sung in time with the movements of my mouth.
4)We also wanted to incorporate a gradual change of colour also within our actual music video so we researched how to do this onto Final Cut Pro X
5)We found out it was called something called cross divide, a transition effect
6)We then added this feature in the middle of the clip and stretched it so the transition was slower and more gradual
7)this gave the effect that we exactly want to use in the actual editing of our music video

Overall, this practise most definitely benefitted us as we not only rekindled our editing skills from AS but also allowed us to discover new and more advanced skills on Final Cut Pro X so that when it comes to editing we are more prepared.
